How much does Morocco cost is the question we are asked before any other, so here are real numbers. Morocco can be one of the most affordable travel destinations in the world or one of the most expensive, depending entirely on how you choose to travel. A backpacker staying in hostels and eating street food can get by on 40 dollars a day. A couple on a luxury private tour might spend 800 dollars a day. Both are valid ways to experience Morocco. This guide breaks down the real costs so you can budget accurately.
The most important thing to understand about Morocco costs is that accommodation makes the biggest difference. A basic hostel bed costs 12 dollars. A luxury riad suite costs 400 dollars. Everything else, food, transport, activities, is remarkably affordable by Western standards.

How Much Does Morocco Cost in Total
Mid Range
Boutique riads, good restaurants, private driver for the desert leg, some shared tours in the cities. Total budget approximately 4,000 to 6,000 USD for two people including flights from Europe.
Luxury Private
Luxury riads throughout, private guide and vehicle for the full trip, premium desert camp, all meals included. Total budget approximately 8,000 to 14,000 USD for two people including flights from Europe.
From the US
Add approximately 800 to 1,400 USD per person for transatlantic flights to Marrakech or Casablanca. Direct flights from New York to Casablanca with Royal Air Maroc are available. Otherwise connect via Paris, Madrid or London.
The biggest mistake travellers make when budgeting for Morocco is underestimating the desert. Getting to Erg Chegaga and back from Marrakech properly, with a good camp and a real guide, costs more than people expect. Budget properly for the desert and save money elsewhere. The Sahara is worth every dirham.
How Much Does Morocco Cost With a Private Driver
The line that surprises most people is the car. A private driver with a comfortable vehicle runs roughly 100 to 145 USD a day depending on the season and the distances, and that figure already includes his fuel, his own room and his meals. Split between two of you it often comes to less than train tickets plus taxis at either end, and it buys you every stop nobody else makes.
Guides are charged by the city rather than by the trip. Count on 65 to 100 USD for a half day in Fes or Marrakech with someone licensed who really knows the quarter you are walking through. You do not need a guide everywhere. Two or three across a week is usually the right number.
Desert camps are where the spread is widest. A standard camp with shared bathrooms sits around 65 to 100 USD a head with dinner included; a proper luxury camp with a private bathroom and heating starts near 220 USD and climbs from there. The dunes are the same dunes either way, so this is purely a question of how you like to sleep.
How Much Does Morocco Cost in Real Situations
How much does Morocco cost for a family of four?
Less per head than two couples travelling separately, because the car and the guide are charged per day rather than per person. A week of private travel with a driver, riads with family rooms and one desert night lands somewhere around 3,000 to 4,500 USD for four people, flights excluded. Young children often sleep free or at a reduced rate in a riad family room.
How much does Morocco cost on a tight budget?
Morocco remains one of the cheaper countries to travel well in. Riads outside the top tier start near 45 USD a night for two, a tagine in a local place is 5 to 9 USD, and the train from Marrakech to Fes is under 33 USD in first class. A careful traveller can do a week on about 350 to 450 USD plus flights.
How much does Morocco cost at the top end?
There is no ceiling. A suite at La Mamounia in high season runs past 1,300 USD a night on its own, and a private luxury camp with a butler and a heated tent is 330 to 550 USD a head. A ten day trip built entirely at that level, with a car and guide throughout, sits between 13,000 and 27,000 USD for two.
