How to Choose Between These Morocco Destinations

Most people try to fit too many Morocco destinations into too few days. The country is larger than it looks on a map, and the good part is often the hours between places rather than the places themselves. Marrakech to Fes is a full day on the road. Marrakech to Merzouga is two. With a week, three bases is comfortable and four is a stretch.

The simplest way to plan is to pick one city, one landscape and one stretch of coast, then let the road link them. Marrakech with the Sahara and Essaouira works for almost everyone. Fes with the Rif and Chefchaouen suits people who want the north. The Atlas sits between the two and can be a single night or a week of walking, depending on how much you like the quiet.

Season matters more than distance. The desert is wonderful from October to April and punishing in July. Snow can close the high mountain passes for a day or two between December and March. The coast stays mild all year but turns windy in summer, which delights the surfers rather more than the swimmers.
